Playing in the landfill

Korogocho, Kenya
In the maze of Korogocho, one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements, childhood takes shape within a systemic fragility that marks bodies from birth. Structural poverty, inadequate healthcare, and limited access to education profoundly affect the possibilities of growth. Particular attention is given to children with disabilities and to those living with cerebral palsy, often the result of unattended births and an insufficient healthcare system.
Within this context, the youth of the neighborhood create spontaneous forms of inclusion: they share spaces, time, and play with their peers with disabilities, forging relationships that transcend exclusion and redefine the very idea of normality. A fragment of reality in which harsh living conditions coexist with everyday gestures of care, resistance, and dignity.
